The assignment
A wind event opened roofs across several municipal buildings, admitting water into offices, a public works depot and a records store. US Claims Solutions scoped and inventoried the affected buildings under one reporting process for the carrier.
What made it difficult
Public entities carry constraints a commercial site does not. Access is badged, some areas are restricted, and records held in municipal buildings may be subject to retention rules that decide whether a damaged file can be discarded at all. Those were scoped at the start rather than discovered in the field.
What was recorded
Office furniture and fittings, IT and communications hardware, public works shop equipment and consumables, and stored records by volume and condition. Where equipment carried municipal asset tags, the tag was recorded alongside the manufacturer and serial number so the inventory reconciled against the entity’s own asset register.
Outcome
The entity and the carrier worked from the same document. Reconciling to the municipal asset register during the inventory rather than afterwards surfaced the usual divergences early — equipment disposed of years earlier but never written off, and equipment moved between buildings without the register following it.
